This book is clear, concise, and gives good explanations of the critical care topics it covers. It often provided more depth than my Med-Surg textbook, which was helpful. I graduated recently and am keeping this book as a reference to use as a new nurse.

I used this book (5th ed.)for my critical care class in nursing school and found it to be an excellent resource. This text is very accessible to the reader with wonderful charts, diagrams, and pictures. Unlike some of my other text books I will keep this one and refer back to it without hesitation. If you are required to write nursing care plans then you will appreciate the large index filled with sample care plans for about 34 different nursing diagnosis. On the down side, usually nursing texts include a CD with additional NCLEX style questions but this text did not. I selected a 4 star rating for this reason (no CD offered) otherwise it would be 5 stars.

This book really builds on the basic med-surg topics covered earlier in nursing school. It gives great step-by-step instructions of what to do in emergent situations and explanations of what is happening in the body (patho).
